In October of 1959, Southern Railway SD24 number 2508 was completed by EMD. Fifty seven years later, it survives, rebuilt by the Illinois Central as an SD20 and now working as Indiana Harbor Belt 2923, still helping to move freight for Norfolk Southern. Shortly after sunset at IHB's Gibson Yard in Hammond, Indiana, 2923 is seen switching a long cut of autoracks, classifying cars for destinations across the country. Norfolk Southern routes much of its automotive traffic to Gibson, where the regional railroad then sorts and forwards the loads to their next destination. Photo by Casey Thomason.
