Banker locomotives DXC5195-DXC5206-DXC5391 trail the west-bound 'TranzAlpine' into the 8.5km long Otira Tunnel. The tunnel is on a constant 1 in 33 gradient, and although the train is descending in this direction, bankers are still attached to the rear as a fire precaution.
