The railroad never takes a day off. Day and night, no matter the weather, trains need to move. There is the legend of the Polar Express, a train that operates through the cold, snowy night, en route to the North Pole. It may be because of this, trains have the ability to capture the imagination of kids everywhere. On a cold snowy night in Northern California, the legend of the Polar Express played out. The silence of snow falling was quickly erased by the thundering sound of a northbound train working its way up the Sacramento River Canyon. The train, which was en route to the Portland & Western Railroad in Eugene, made a quick station stop in Dunsmuir, to switch crews and bring on fresh supplies. Just as quickly as it arrived, it departed, working throughout the night in order to keep the lifeblood of America moving.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
