Remarks & Notes
The Australian Railway Historical Society, Canberra Museum owns this Beyer Garratt locomotive, DC-6029, built by Beyer Peacock & Co., Manchester, England. It entered service with the N.S.W.G.Rlys in April 1954 and was withdrawn from Govt. service on the 4 January 1973. It was one of 42 operational units of the 60 Class members designed as heavy freight locos. This 260 ton monster is seen here in full flight as it passes through Bloomfield and approaching the city of Orange in the Central West of NSW. The train is being assisted in the rear by C-502, a diesel loco, owned by Chicago Freight Car Leasing Australia, National Rail Corporation, V/Line & Victorian Railway. This shuttle is returning from Blayney. The locomotives were based and serviced at Orange over this weekend. They operated numerous shuttles from Orange to Blayney and return and also Orange to Molong and return with many locals and those who travelled from afar to enjoy the sights and sounds of this huge steam locomotive, the largest class (with a wheel arrangement of 4-8-4 + 4-8-4) of steam locomotive in the Sthn Hemisphere.
