Amtrak #6, led by #42, the Veteran's unit, cruises downgrade, curving around the thin vertical sandstone slab called Castlegate. This is the site of an abandoned and now nonexistent coal mining camp called Royal. Due to long track shut downs for snow removal in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains, #6 is running 8 hours late here in Utah. The next stop, Helper, is just a few minutes away. This action is on the Union Pacific Provo Sub.
