Remarks & Notes

A 1982 visit to the South Branch Valley found no revenue trains, but there were crews out performing maintenance of way duties. First we encountered an Alco S1 in ballast service, and then we found this MRS1 with a crew picking up ties. The location is just south of the “trough”, and the point where the present-day Potomac Eagle reverses direction for the trip back to Romney. Many of the track improvements were short-lived, as large portions of the line were wiped out by floods in 1985
