Remarks & Notes |
We're in the clear on the Ford Train in the westward siding at Voltz. Voltz was located halfway between Watertown and Richwood,WI.on the Lacrosse Division double track mainline. There were two sidings one east and one west. We had cleared the main for the Milwaukee Road's hottest freight the XL Special that ran from Chicago to Tacoma. We probably could have run ahead of 261 as we had three GP40's but maybe the DS didn't want to take the chance with such a young Engineer(me) at the controls of the Ford train. At any rate we probably chased 261 on yellows all the way to Portage....back then we ran 60-70mph on freight or as fast as the wheels could turn depending on the situation. |
