”Chatsworth Rocks” was the location of many publicity photos of Southern Pacific’s Coast Daylight back in the steam days, so it was, naturally, one of the desired spots to photograph the return of former Daylight 4-8-4 4449 as it powered Amtrak's Transcontinental Steam Excursion from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo on April 26, 1977 – with a little help from Amtrak SDP40F 527. (The train originated in Birmingham, Alabama, and the 4449 pulled a consist of Amtrak passenger cars on a series of day trips, with the cars full of enthusiastic riders, as it makes its way home to Portland, Oregon.)
Displays of American pride, and spirit! Equipment painted Red, White, and Blue! With an honored salute and tribute to our veterans and troops added too! Patriots can still be found to join this gathering of Patriotic Pride!
