Fishery Point: Crossing Nehalem Bay. Belching a plume of oily smoke, the former McCloud River Railroad Locomotive #25 hauls a local mixed train across the little bridge at Fishery Point, en route to a water stop just over a mile ahead, in downtown Wheeler. Just on the other side of the fill on which the train is running is pretty Nehalem Bay, and the mighty Pacific Ocean.
This former SP trackage is now the home of the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, which runs from Garibaldi, all the way to Salmonberry, a distance of about 35 miles. From Garibaldi to Wheeler, passengers are treated to views of coastal communities and the Pacific Ocean. After Wheeler however, it's a different world, featuring heavily wooded country and the mossy scenery in the Nehalem River Canyon.
