Remarks & Notes
President Washington

In 1927, the Baltimore and Ohio ordered 20 P-7 class Pacifics for service on the New York – Washington Royal Blue Line service. In an attempt to gain notice from the travelling public, the B&O painted the 4-6-2’s olive green, and named them after the first 21 U.S. presidents, with President Adams representing both John Adams and John Quincy Adams. After thirty years of service, the President Washington was retired and set aside for preservation in 1957. The handsome Pacific is seen here while still on outdoor display at the B&O museum in 1981.
