Heritage Rail Corp. VLIX or SCL 2024 sit quietly couple up with the Southern Railway "Fort Oglethorpe" at the Heritage Rail Corp Yard in Oak Ridge, TN. Built in September of 1971 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, ex:SCL 2024 is powered by a V-type 20 cylinder 645 E3 diesel engine and is rated at 3600 horsepower. Later in its career SCL 2024 was renumbered SBD 8924 by SCL successor Seaboard System and later CSX. The unit has passed through a series of short lines and regional railroad operators. Sometime in late 2015 the 16-cylinder locomotive was purchase by Heritage Rail Corp, and was painted back in its glorious original SCL livery by Railway Service Contractors in Grandview, MO to take part in the heritage preservation collect at the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum (SARM) not existed. The locomotive was sent to it final home at Heritage Rail Corp (SARM none existent) and the honorable letters, slogans and SCL herald was applied to the engine. Today this beautiful piece of history is being put to good use in pulling cars for the Y-12 facility.
