As the rain begin to fall on this early cloud spring afternoon, CSX N122-30 glides pass the south-end of the siding in the outskirts of suburban Kennesaw, GA (MP WA-26.0 Day) on the CSX Western & Atlantic Sub. The loaded Crystal River Energy Complex train is only 5 miles outside of the CSX Atlanta Terminal just north of Tilford's Classification Yard in Marietta, GA. The loaded coal bucket will arrive and swap crews before heading south to Manchester, GA on its long run to Florida. The motor consist is made up with a pair of SD70ACe Demos from Progress Rail, and a CW44AH. At the time CSX was test running these two third generation SD70ACe's to determine if CSX would be interested into purchasing more ACe's motors in the future and even after the two spectacular units seen here were sold to it's new owner Arkansas & Missouri Railroad (A&M) the following year CSX would yet again test run two set of SD70ACe Demonstrator. One would think that the ACe's were successful on CSX, if only they were!
