Remarks & Notes |
The last BN train over Cornelius Pass is shown at Lake Labish near Salem. Sparks from a locomotive on this train started a fire that destroyed a large timber trestle on the former United Railways route near Portland. This line connected the Astoria Line with the Oregon Electric. Ironically, this structure on OE near Salem was virtually brand new, having been built to replace a timber trestle that was destroyed in a 1992 derailment.
Portland & Western rebuilt the burned trestle in 1998. Today, PNWR operates over Cornelius Pass and over the Oregon Electric line shown in this image. |
