The orange logo lives on, although most passers-by likely do not know what it represents. Between the Clark Fork River and the University of Montana, this is the former Milwaukee Road mainline in Misssoula, about 475 miles east of its Pacific terminus of Seattle and other points west. Completed in 1909, the Pacific extension was in operation until 1980, when declining revenues led the company to end traffic west of Miles City, Montana. This section of track is now a trail, with a three-color signal light still standing sentinel over its former charge.
