As Amtrak 824 came south from Jesup, it pierced through the morning fog and approached the interchange at the north end of Folkston. Suddenly, a doublestack from Waycross, lead by CSX 5417, rounded the corner and came into view on the left. The drag race was on! Amtrak won, and it was exciting to watch and listen to on the scanner as the engineers were talking to each other.
The GE Genesis series are well known for being Amtrak's locomotive. With confirmation of retirement from Amtrak themselves, their time is limited. Now is your chance to catch them before the chargers arrive!
