Wishes do come true.... Veteran NSRM Engineer Bill Kohler prepares a young fan for his first close-up experience with a steam locomotive, during the museum's annual 4th of July Spectacular. The young boy seen here has been facing a serious illness and his visit this day was a "wish" granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the NSRM Volunteers. The young lad and his family received the royal treatment from the "Steam Team", hopping rides on all of the equipment and spending some quality time in the cabs of the three steam engines that were in operation during this event. Watching his visit play out, I could easily tell that the lad had a particular affinity for the "Glenbrook", seen in this photo. The diminutive size of narrow gauge equipment, coupled with the classic, ornate look of this engine somehow makes it less intimidating and more approachable than the larger, standard gauge engines.
