Conrail's first test of the then-new SD80MACs in coal train service proved to be too much. On Feb. 17, 1996, CR MACs 4104 and 4102 were dragging 17,000+ tons of black diamonds over the Allegheny Mountains when they stalled at AR Tower in Gallitzin, PA.
