Amtrak No. 5, the westbound California Zephyr, rolls across the barren desert at the foot of the Book Cliffs in Utah. At this spot a bit of the original narrow gauge D&RG alignment can be seen breaking off where the pilings for the old trestle still stand and an abandoned cut still sits a few dozen yards further.
The GE Genesis series are well known for being Amtrak's locomotive. With confirmation of retirement from Amtrak themselves, their time is limited. Now is your chance to catch them before the chargers arrive!
