Remarks & Notes

New York Central added 70 new GE U25Bs (phase 1 & 2) to its diesel roster in 1964-65. These 2500-series speed merchants were typically assigned to priority traffic, while older first-generation units drew secondary trains. And speaking of first-generation power, the NYC roster, when this photo was taken, consisted of approximately 1400 road locomotives, including 16 Baldwin RF-16A "shark noses" and eight RF-16Bs. Most of the Baldwin cab units were retired in 1966, while a few including the 3804 remained on the roster until May 1967.
