With an aging, ailing motive power fleet, Guilford scoured the used locomotive market for bargains. One source was the Detroit Edison fleet of SD40’s and U30C’s. The B&M got one of the GE’s, and the Maine Central received five of the EMD’s. All were hastily patched and placed into service, as evidenced by MEC 603, formerly DEEX 014, seen here.
