Remarks & Notes
For my 6000th contribution on Railpictures.net, I choosed this photo from the last summer: Sunset behind the Rhine viaduct of Eglisau. A freight train from the Limmattal shunting yard (RBL) to Schaffhausen, pulled by a Re 4/4 II, behind it a track-laying machine and a crane, just crosses the impressive bridge between the stations Eglisau (left) and Hüntwangen-Wil (right). This single-track combined arch/steeltruss bridge was built between 1895 and 1897 by the then North-East Railway (Nordostbahn, NOB) and cost about 1 million Sfr. It is part of the railway connection from Zurich via Bülach to Schaffhausen. The total length is 457 metres, the span of the truss girder is 90 metres, the height above the Rhine river is 50 metres (approx. 63 metres above the ground). On the right side of the river, the bridge consists of 12 brickstone pillars with arches of 15 metres span each, on the left side, which leads to Eglisau station in a curve, there are 9 arches. 1982 the bridge was completely renovated. Up in the sky, you can see an aircraft approaching Zurich Airport.

Nocturnal Nuances! From Sunset To Sunrise - What A Surprise!

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom seen beauty of railroads from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding sunset to sunrise surprises!)
