In Broad Pass, Alaska on December 22 I wouldn't say there are a lot of possibilities for train photos. With the limited daylight hours let alone sunshine not to mention the scarcity of trains, it really is like finding a needle in a haystack. So when I found out the Alaska Railroad had a plow train running to plow between Colorado and Cantwell on my day off I decided sure I will drive the 4 hours to see if I just might find that needle in the proverbial haystack. Sunrise was at 10:38, but never really made it over the mountain tops, Colorado was snowed in and not passable so I decided to wait the train out at Broad Pass. The spreader with a GP40-2/GP38-2 combo have plowed both the main and siding at Broad Pass and are now headed to Cantwell where they will run around there train and head south. This shot was taken about 1330 and while the mountains were dramatically illuminated the train was still in the shadows. Sunset was at 15:10 so we were able to grab a few more shots before they arrived at Cantwell.
