The former Jersey Central main line east of Bethlehem has been unused as a through route since the early 1970's. The tracks between Easton and Freemansburg were ripped up, and the former main line between Bethlehem and Freemansburg became known as the Freemansburg industrial track. By the time of this photo, the industries served on the Freemansburg industrial track no longer used rail service. Occasionally, Allentown yard would be full, and a train waiting for a crew change would be sent down the nearest part of the Freemansburg industrial track to get it out of the way. Usually, the trains backed into the siding, but here, the power is as far east as I ever saw a road engine on the Freemansburg industrial track.
