Remarks & Notes
In January 1997, Amtrak train No. 35 approaches UP's concrete bridge over the Mojave River. The passenger train from Chicago rocks through a crossover as it comes up out of the yard and onto the bridge approach. Right behind the westbound Desert Wind is a UP Hanjin stack train, which will cross the river on the far track. In the distance are the highly eroded Calico Mountains, site of the Calico Ghost Town.

Depicts Amtrak's "Desert Wind" service, which operated from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, via Las Vegas. Its discontinuance in 1997 left the lower Intermountain region, including Las Vegas, without any passenger rail service since.
