Remarks & Notes
Rolling through the small community of Skibo, MN. The station at Skibo was named after Skibo Castle, the Scottish summer home of Andrew Carnegie. The site was the location of a sawmill that operated during the early part of the 20th Century and was built and owned by the Oliver Company, which was a pioneer in mining on the Iron Range. The first railroad route to the Iron Range, the Duluth & Iron Range, serviced their mines, crossing the Saint Louis River here at Skibo which is five miles downstream from the original mill site. Today, there are a few remains of the old mill site and a few homes and cabins along the railroad.
