Remarks & Notes
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe manifest freight climbs out of Clay, Colorado, on the morning of July 5, 2003. Pushing on the rear of the westbound train is a pair of former BN Cascade green EMD SD40-2 manned helpers required on the 2 percent grade up to the Moffat Tunnel.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
