Switzerland has a new gem of a steamlocomotive! Cogwheel 0-8-0 HG 4/4 # 704 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke, built by SLM Winterthur in 1923 and delivered to Indochina (now Vietnam) for the line from Thap Cham to Da Lat. Brought back to Switzerland in 1990 more or less as scrap. Rebuilt during the last 12 years with about 50000 man hours in the workshops of Chur and Uzwil. About half of the parts had to be built new, mainly the whole frame, copper firebox, sheet metal of water tank, cab and boiler jacketing etc. The 4 cylinder compound locomotive with separate cogwheel and adhesion drives (Winterthur system) is standing on the turntable of Realp and will run on the line for the first time shortly. Since the last picture, there were fine red decorative lines attached.
