During the period of August 17 through 20, Army National Guard units that had participated in the Operation Northern Strike exercises at Camp Grayling, Grayling, Michigan, were loaded back onto the trains from which they arrived to head back home. On Sunday, August 18, Lake State Railway train 141-18, the Rhode Island ARNG unit train, is seen ready to depart from the Grayling Army Airfield loop track as the first of more than a dozen UH-60 Blackhawks take flight to head to their home base from the air strip directly behind the train. LSRC SD40-2 6302 wears the commemorative logos for Operation Northern Strike and a special nose logo for LSRC. Another very special thank you to the Michigan and US Army National Guard for having me on base to photo document the rail operations.
