A loaded ArcelorMittal Mines Canada (AMMC) iron ore train is seen from a rare vantage point above the Aux Rochers River and south of Lac Walker, Quebec, with AMMC ES44AC 302 and QCM AC44CW 17 leading the 210-car train. This location requires the use of a boat to access as it is roughly two miles from the closest access point. In three previous outings we had taken the boat to this location with track outages or wrong-way trains providing no success with a desired photo. On August 14, based on cycle times, we knew we would have a north and a southbound train between roughly 1400 and 1600 hrs, putting the DPU of the NB and the head end of the SB in perfect light at Bridge 19 on the AMMC Southern Subdivision. The northbound had passed just prior to this and met this train at Baker Siding, providing our opportunity. Though heavily faded in just a few years time, the AMMC ES44AC 302 is one of the newest motors of the fleet and is paired with QCM AC44CW 17 on the 210-car loaded ore train bound for Port Cartier from loading at the concentrator at Mont Wright, Quebec.
