At the end of a warm October day, SR 4501 is heading west back to the East Chattanooga Shop completing another super Saturday pulling the Autumn Leaf Special 100+ rail-miles journey to Summerville, GA and back. Once the 118 year old 2-8-2 is back at the shop, the crew will cap the stack, and let the locomotive fire burn out for the rest of the weekend. Six days from now the fire will be lit back up in the firebox of the locomotive as the next crew will get the SR 4501 prep and ready to pull the next Autumn Leaf Special.
