On a warm fall day shortly after the Boston & Maine and Maine Central began pooling road diesels, B&M train POME (Portland, ME, to Mechanicville, NY) rolls west through Shirley, MA, behind two MEC U25Bs and two B&M GP38-2s. At this time the Guilford organization had purchased the MEC but would not close the deal on the B&M until the following summer.
