Remarks & Notes
Sadly, one of the most spectacular railroads worldwide was destroyed by heavy floods in march 2015, the 1 meter gauge line from Chañaral via Diego de Almagro-Llanta up to Potrerillos. When you look on Google Earth nowadays, only few remains of the right of way are visible. In may 2012, sixaxle EMD GR12U # 401 (built in 1961 as EFE Dt 13001) and # 91 (built in 1965 for Codelco) are pulling an empty 23 car sulphuric acid train from Llanta through the gorge of the salt river towards Potrerillos, passing an old water tower and station.
