Remarks & Notes
The DX class was built by General Electric's Erie, PA plant and entered service from 1972. From 1988 the DX class received a series of modifications and, with new motors and Brightstar fitted, were classified DXB. Assisting loco DFB 7239 was built by EMD in Canada in 1979 and rebuilt since with Brightstar etc. The manifest train is crossing Maheno trestle south of Oamaru bound for Dunedin.

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
