“Clear Signal: Hammerjacks” The B&O’s Chesapeake (Brunswick to Philadelphia) is eastbound, passing Hammerjacks just before reaching (the then closed) HB Tower in Baltimore at 18:56 on August 17, 1986. “Hammerjacks” was sometimes substituted for the official timetable location when radioing the signal aspect here. [That is a general observation. In no way am I suggesting that the crew in this photo used anything but “by the book” radio protocol.]
The framing for one of the landmark telescoping gas holders at Baltimore Gas & Electric Company's Spring Garden facility can be seen in the far left background, beyond Hammerjacks, the well-known nightclub/concert hall that was located on South Howard Street from 1982-1997.
