Remarks & Notes
Freight pool caboose at Portage Yard circa mid 70's......The small door to the right of the bay window was for the loading and unloading of ice and coal and for removing ash from the coal stove. These babies had four of the most comfortable bunks you ever wanted to curl up on and go to sleep! They were made of leather and over stuffed just enough so la-la land could be achieved with no problem especially while moving.......I didn't get to ride in-um much as I was on the other end of the train most of the time....but when I did I really enjoyed it........I believe these square windowed crummies were built in the freight car shops at West Milwaukee in the 1940's.
