UP 5334 leads a mixed freight along the Sacramento River outside of Dunsmuir, CA. The train is about to round the bend and cross the river at the infamous Cantara Loop, the site in 1991 of a derailment of an SP train carrying metam sodium (a herbicide). According to articles, the train was poorly built and the crew pulled too hard around the sharp curve, causing multiple rail cars to jump the tracks and tumble into the water below. The resulting spill killed nearly everything in and around the river for an almost 40 mile radius. A heavy-duty guardrail has since been installed on the inside of the curved bridge to prevent another derailment from landing in the water.
