In a somewhat rare turn of events, AMTK 458 finds itself trailing on Amtrak 763 as the train rolls over the ironic span at Ventura that crosses US 101. The rareness of this stems from both the selling and repositioning of almost all of Amtrak's F59's to Metra in Chicago to begin their "second life" and having a locomotive facing south on a northbound train in general. The addition of 458 on this cool, winter's morning likely stemmed from the south-facing cabcar having an issue either out of San Diego or Los Angeles - requiring the placement of a locomotive on the rear. It won't be long now before all these workhorses of the Pacific Surfliners are gone, giving way to the new, SC-44 Chargers.
Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
