Remarks & Notes |
On a hazy muggy June morning it was just another fine day on the railroad, but we witness one of the most unique piece of railroad maintenance equipment. GMS-1 is one of two self-propelled geometry cars on the CSX system with is equip with electro-mechanical sensors used to automatically detect and record track geometry over long distance. It is also a "railfan's nightmare!" with GMS-1 getting the clear signal to proceed south on the W&A Sub, the car was schedule to run about 48 miles that morning to do a reading of the track, which mean the train traffic was going to be very slow for the next several hours. |
