Remarks & Notes |
Of the 25 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" engines built for the Union Pacific by the American Locomotive Company, 8 have survived the cutter's torch and Cheyenne, Wyoming will be the proud host of two of these monsters. UP X4004 last ran freight in 1958 and was donated to the City of Cheyenne in 1963. It was moved via temporary track to Holiday Park, just east of the downtown area. It is hard to imagine that we will be able to witness a Big Boy under steam power when UP 4014 heads to Utah in May. |
