The 6 car TRANS EUROP EXPRESS trainset RAe TEE II # 1053, built in 1961 and capable for the 4 different overhead wire systems of Europe, has an automatic Scharfenberg coupling, to run two trains in multiple traction. In the event of a breakdown, the train may be towed by an auxiliary coupling from a traction unit with normal coupling. Since the RAe TEE II is not equipped with the ETCS (European Train Control System) Level 2 train protection system, which was introduced on several lines in Switzerland, it must be guided over these sections with an appropriately equipped vehicle. After arriving in St-Maurice from Lausanne, the Re 4/4 II # 11198 was suspended and the heavy auxiliary coupling was returned to the RAe TEE II # 1053 by two members of the crew.
