Remarks & Notes
In 1974, Santa Fe was experiencing a power shortage. They pulled sets of SD24's and DL 600's out of storage using them in captive service between Barstow and Bakersfield. Here, a set of five SD24's were westbound waiting for a meet at the east end of Bealville siding.

Aside from Warbonnets and Chiefs, Santa Fe was a workaday railroad like any other. This album showcases that less glamorous--but no less vital--side of the famous ATSF.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
