There might not be any photo lines or a Big Boy 4-8-8-4 barreling down this right-of-way along Union Pacific's Overland Route, but this obscure rail line in one of West Virginia'a most remote sections was built for the same purpose - hauling freight through rural America. Here, we look north along the ex-Chesapeake & Ohio Greenbrier River line toward Durbin from Cass. Currently, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad is restoring this rail corridor for tourist purposes after the great flood of 1985 washed away most of the right-of-way. And while this may never attract the crowds that the beloved Big Boy has achieved in recent weeks, this very route will welcome over 100 photographers and thousands of riders as it joins DGVR's tourist rail portfolio in September 2019.
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
