Ain't she sweet?.....the 4014, I mean. The recent Big Boy debut was a pretty crowded affair, making it very difficult to get "clean" photos of the locomotive. People just kept getting in the way. Sure enough, I line up a nicely lit, morning roster of the newly restored Big Boy, and these cowgirls come charging into my shot. Sheesh! Yes, railfans, there is indeed a locomotive in this shot. LOL!
All kidding aside, the folks who stuck around the Evanston Yard for the eastbound departure on May 13th were treated to a visit by a couple of ladies on horseback, who came by the yard about 30 minutes before the Big Boy was scheduled to depart. Rebecca (on the left) and Rachel (on the right) are sisters and competitive rodeo riders and their two horses are specially trained. The UP Special Agents immediately cleared the crowd away from the locomotive and actually facilitated an impromptu photo shoot with these ladies. After posing with Big Boy, Rachel even demonstrated a dizzying spin in place for the photographers. Needless to say, it made everyone's day. Everything else I shot that day just didn't measure up. :o)
