Highball through Henefer. With just one servicing stop remaining on their long journey from Cheyenne, UP Steam Locomotives 4014 and 844 highball west toward their final destination in Ogden, UT, passing under the Main St. overpass in Henefer, where a crowd of photographers, including me, are making their electronic memories at a furious rate. With the very cold conditions that persisted across Western Wyoming and Northern Utah this day, there's no apprehension about whether or not we'll get a decent plume. The only nervousness is what the wind might do with it. Fortunately, the plume didn't hide anything important....just the diesel behind 844 (yes! :o).
This was perhaps the easiest shot I'd get this day. Having left the I-80 Rest Stop at Echo with relative ease a few minutes before, taking this shot was just a matter of taking the exit ramp and parking just east of the bridge. Fortunately, unlike some of the folks you see on the extreme right side of this photo, I didn't park on the Interstate Exit Ramp. From what I could see, the Utah State Troopers appeared to be taking a rather dim view of that practice. After the shot, a quick right turn back onto the interstate, and I'd be on toward my last spot in Uintah, some 30 miles down the line.
