Texas & Pacific 4-6-0 No. 316Texas & Pacific 4-6-0 No. 316, aka; Texas State Railroad 4-6-0 No. 201, is an Alco/ Cooke locomotive built in 1902. The locomotive is one of only two original Texas & Pacific survivors, though, a third could be counted if you include T&P No. 400, a 2-8-2, former Fort Worth & Denver City that the T&P purchased in 1958. That locomotive is on display in Marshall, TX..
No. 316 was donated to the Texas State Railroad in 1974 by the city of Abilene, TX. Abilene purchased the locomotive from the Paris & Mount Pleasant Railroad Co. in Paris, TX, the locomotive's second owner. The locomotive, the smallest on the Texas State Railroad's roster, ran on the line until sidelined with boiler issues. It was refitted with a brand new boiler in the Summer of 2004 but once again sidelined due to flaws discovered with the then new boiler. Like sister, 4-6-2 No. 500, aka; AT&SF No. 1316, No. 316 is currently awaiting disposition with her boiler, and a hoped for return to operation.
