In the late 1960s the Illinois Central operated an expedited overnight piggyback service between Chicago and Memphis, trains 50 and 51, known as the Fastback. E-units were the regular power. At dusk, a quartet of E-units led by E9 4036 hustle the southbound Fastback through Homewood, IL, bound for a scheduled 7 AM arrival in Memphis.
