| The four cylinder compound cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 4/4 # 704 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (steam railway Furka mountain line) reached the highest station, Furka DFB, on 2160 meter a.s.l. Now the locomotive has to be turned for the run down the mountain to Realp: This type of locomotive has to go down chimney towards the mountain, otherwise that would be a risk that the firebox ceiling would lack covering with water on the 11.0 % down grade. The HG 3/4 locomotives are built to handle this and run chimney first downgrade. |
