BNSF Railway train L-CAL0313-20, behind ET44C4s 3762 and 3746, holds the siding at West Allensworth, California, at sunset on February 20, 2018. A pair of recently delivered Tier 4 diesels (3762 is only eight months old, and 3746 is just one month older than that) seem like odd power for a local, but locals on the BNSF's Bakersfield Sub can often travel for long distances. It's a busy evening on this section of the BNSF, as another westbound, train Z-WSPSTO9-18, will soon overtake this train. But ten miles ahead, it will take the siding at Angiola to meet eastbound Amtrak 714. Eight miles behind Allensworth, at Sandirini, another westbound freight is in the siding as well, most likely also holding for the eastbound (southbound) Amtrak "San Joaquin."
