Remarks & Notes
BNSF Railway's Transcon is a busy stretch of railroading - and a long stretch, as it connects the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California to Chicago, Illinois, a distance of over 2000 miles. In much of southern California's urban Los Angeles Basin, the railroad is triple-tracked, with more in the planning stages. Crossing the Santa Ana Mountains by following the Santa Ana River (detecting a theme here?), BNSF train Z-LACWSP9-17 (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal; Los Angeles CA to Willow Springs IL) heads east on the center mainline, while BNSF train BNSF Z-MEMLAC7-13 (Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal; Memphis TN to Los Angeles CA) heads west on one of the two other mainlines. (Truth be told, though, the third main is usually used for storage of trains waiting for space in either Los Angeles' Hobart Yard or either of the ports, so this is in effect a double-track railroad through here for now.) The LACWSP is powered by five locomotives: ES44DC 7672, Dash 9-44CW 5209, ES44C4 6648, ES44C4 6653 and ES44DC 7692. (Yorba Linda, California - May 17, 2019)
