Elgin Joliet & Eastern purchased three orders of EMD SD38-2s, for a total of 13 locomotives. (Another seven SD38-2s were acquired from the Bessemer & Lake Erie.) The first engine of the second group, EJ&E 660, was built in January 1975. At the end of 2012, the EJ&E was acquired by Canadian National subsidiary Wisconsin Central - which explains why EJ&E 660 was photographed on September 30, 2018 at CN's Woodcrest Yard in Homewood, Illinois.
